Introduction: The Building Community Disaster Preparedness Capacity Project (BCDPC) is implementing from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2010 in 20 Upazila’s under nine coastal Districts of Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with technical support from the European Commission and by a Consortium of the British Red Cross (lead agency), Swedish and German Red Cross for reducing the cyclone disaster related vulnerabilities and improving life and livelihood in the targeted areas. The final evaluation of the “Building Community Disaster Preparedness Capacity Project” (BCDPC) took place from April 14 to May 4, 2010 and it has done successfully. The 2nd phase of the project will continue June, 2011 with the support Consortium of the British Red Cross (lead agency), Swedish and German Red Cross in the same areas.]

Benefiaciries: A total of 34,400 households or 206,400 people are being benefited of which 32,508 are adult male, 39,732 are adult female, 68,510 are male children and 65,650 are female children under 16 years of age.  Many project activities have been target the whole community but 34,400 women and 17,000 school-aged children being specifically targeted by certain activities, as the most vulnerable Community. Religious leaders, teacher, social leader and professional communities also getting benefited from the project activities.]

Specific Objective of the Project: Communities, particularly high risk groups such as women and children, are better able to prepare for, manage and overcome the impact of cyclones in 9 cyclone prone districts of Bangladesh

Project locations: The BCDPC project has been running its activities at Red Crescent cyclone shelter based 1.5 sq. km area under each of the 84 shelters of 20 Upazilas under cyclone prone 09 coastal districts such as:
