Professor Dr M. S. Akbar, MP, Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent, was born in 1944 in a reputed Muslim family in Magura district. He passed MBBS in 1966 with distinction. He earned higher degrees in pediatric medicine from Edinburgh, Glasgow & Ireland with scholarship from Commonwealth Universities Association UK.He served in many capacities including as Professor of Child Health at the Institute of Child Health, Director of Dhaka Children's Hospital and as consultant of many well-known health institutions & social organizations. |
He was President of Bangladesh pediatric association. As an eminent medical scientist he wrote many scientific articles in reputed international & local medical journals. In his personal life he has been associated with a host of social organizations rendering social and humanitarian services to the community.In political life, he has been elected as member of the National Assembly for three terms, first for 1996-2001, then for 2001-2006 and till now. During these terms he served as Chairman and member of a number of parliamentary standing committees. He is well-known in his constituency as a pleasant personality, an honest and straight-forward person demonstrating leadership in initiating many developmental projects. |
