Mobile Data Collection (MDC) is now a days, the most widely used tool in surveys and assessment in the humanitarian world. As a data gathering application it allows users to conduct surveys, audits and inspection checklists, generate management reports and export the data gathered to statistical analysis applications.

The data captured in remote areas can be made available to office managers within minutes of collection. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has been using the MDC for assessment, distribution of cash/in kind materials and monitoring for the response and development programmes. It’s high time to develop the capacity of staff and volunteers in data collection through mobile devices, data cleaning, data analysis, data visualization and information management.

With the aim of building a trained and expert HR pool on MDC and to strengthen its response operation as well as other long term programmes, BDRCS with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) started a 3 day learning by doing Mobile Data Collection training in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Staff and National Disaster Response Team (NDRT), National Disaster Wash Response Team (NDWRT) and volunteers from BDRCS and staff from IFRC, American Red Cross, British Red Cross, German Red Cross in Bangladesh joined this training.
