National Disaster Preparedness Day 2019, was observed yesterday, to prepare the people to fight disasters. Disaster preparedness refers to the preventive measures taken to reduce the severity of a disaster’s effects. The goal of disaster preparedness is to lessen the impact of disasters on vulnerable populations, to ready an organisation for an influx of activity, and to design a coordinated plan that reduces the waste of resources, time, and efforts. Disaster preparedness has the potential to save the maximum number of lives and property during a disaster, and it aims to return the affected populations to normalcy as quickly as possible.

The Chairman of BDRCS said: “It is really important to educate people on disaster resilience which can help to protect the communities before, during and after a disaster. We need to make the best use of resources we have.” He added: “It would be so effective if Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence works under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.” He also emphasized to increase collaboration between the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and the BDRCS Volunteer Network for faster response during an emergency or disaster.
