Urban Disaster Risk Reduction, Preparedness and Response, Capacity Building

Overall Objective

To contribute to reduced propensity and scale of secondary impact from earthquakes and major emergency amongst the population Dhaka.

Specific Objective

Target wards of Dhaka South are better prepared to respond to earthquake and other major emergencies.

Result 1

Key actors (WDMC, BDRCS, BFSCD) have improved knowledge, tools, process and structures for preparedness and response.

Result 2

The knowledge of earthquake risk and effectiveness of response coordination has improved amongst key actors and the target population.

Result 3

The extent to which community associations and school promote earthquake preparedness in an effective and sustainable manner has increased.

Target groups

A total of 38,410 direct beneficiaries as follows:

- 60 masters trainers/facilitators from the BDRCS (on FA, light SAR,URA,RCY and volunteers management).

- 350 members of the Ward Disaster Management Committee (WDMC)

- 2,250 existing urban Volunteers and RCY Volunteers.

-750 Woman Action Volunteers for Emergencies (WAVE)

- 20,000 school students and teachers in participating schools.

-15,000 members from clerical leaders and community associations.
