The Training Department, since its inception in 1997, has been providing various professional trainings with an aim to ‘increase capacity of the BDRCS through developing skill of staff and volunteers’. Main fields of training are Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, Staff Induction, Basic First Aid, Search & Rescue, Emergency Response, Disaster Management (DM)/Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Training of Trainers (ToT), Community Based Health & First Aid (CBHFA), Participatory Health And Sanitation Transformation(PHAST), etc.
Apart from conducting in-house training, the Department conducts following training courses for employees, members and volunteers of different national and international organizations, including UN and Government agencies:
- Basic First Aid.
- Search & Rescue.
- Disaster Management/Risk Reduction.
- Fire Safety & Management.
In addition, we, on request, also design and provide special courses on Early Warning (Cyclone), Sea Safety & Cyclone Shelter Management, CBHFA, WASH etc.In 2012 the Department conducted 84 training courses on First Aid, Search & Rescue, Fire Safety & Management, Disaster Management and other issues (e.g. DM/DRR) for BDRCS and different organizations such as OXFAM-GB, BBC Media, Australian International School, BRAC, TIB, GIZ, Holcim Cement (BD) Ltd. British Council, HSBC Ltd. Simens, AGB, Santos Sangu Gas Field, etc. Besides, during the period from September 2011 to February 2012 the Training Department conducted 33 training courses (18 First Aid and 15 Search & Rescue) under a single AGREEMENT with a consortium of six INGOs (Action Aid, Concern Universal, Concern World Wide, Oxfam GB, Islamic Relief World Wide and Plan International), known as National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives-NARRI. These courses were implemented for 864 community volunteers of the local partners of NARRI members, located at remote areas/communities under Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Gaibandha, Faridpur and Barguna districts. Total 1814 persons from above mentioned organizations were imparted different trainings in 2012.
In addition to that the Training Department has also imparted five training courses on First Aid, Search & Rescue and ToT for the 112 Officers of Bangladesh Police and RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) at Tangail Police Training Center, Chittagong Metropolitan, Bandarban and BRAC Center. A significant number of qualified trainers are available at BDRCS Training Department who are well experienced and they have been providing such trainings since long. They have been providing trainings, particularly on Search & Rescue, in abroad (in recent past Sri Lanka and Bhutan) as well. The Department also assists in organizing/hosting various international meetings, seminars, workshops and trainings in Bangladesh and supports in implementing such other events.
